Goethe-Zertifikat A1 Exam Structure
The exam has four parts worth 100 points total. You need 60 points (60%) to pass. Here is exactly what to expect.
Lesen (Reading)
Read short texts, notices, emails, and ads. Match information, identify true/false statements, and select correct answers.
Tip: Practice reading German signs, menus, and short emails daily.
Hören (Listening)
Listen to announcements, phone messages, and short conversations. Answer multiple-choice and true/false questions.
Tip: Listen to German podcasts and DW audio exercises regularly.
Schreiben (Writing)
Fill out a form with personal information and write a short personal message (email, SMS, or note) of about 30 words.
Tip: Practice writing short emails about everyday topics.
Sprechen (Speaking)
Introduce yourself, ask and answer simple questions about everyday topics, and make requests using prompt cards.
Tip: Practice self-introduction and common questions with a partner.
